Music and Lyrics

Posted in Links, Movies

Well I almost missed doing a post on Friday (even though the save date will be Saturday cause I have the time as 11:56PM) but here it is.

Today after work I went to see a movie called Music and Lyrics. I was hoping to catch another movie but it turns out that it was sold out. But I am glad that I saw Music & Lyrics because it was not a movie that I would have chosen. It looked to be a real love story which guys usually get dragged to by their girlfriends/wives, so I wouldn’t have opted to see it if I wasn’t already in the ticket queue the the other movie wasn’t sold out.

I usually like to check out the morality rating of movies before seeing them, I didn’t on this one but it was a very good movie which had very few acts of violence, profanity, or sex in it. (You can view the morality rating here)

All round it was very enjoyable, very funny and well worth the time to view. What are you waiting for? Go and watch it for yourself.

UQWIA – Useless Questions with Interesting Answers

Posted in UQWIA

OK two posts in one day. This is a record for me and only on the second day, this will be difficult to beat.

The motivation behind this post is a friend of mine (Afflict)  just sent me this question with answer. The question is “If a child is born on an airplane, what’s his ‘place of birth’ and citizenship?” The answer can be found here http://people.howstuffworks.com/air-birth.htm

Day two

Posted in General, Photo Hunters

Here we go, day two and I am writing another post. I will try to keep it up and not get bored with the blog. I was reading something or even listening to someone talk and the author (or speaker) was saying how archeologists 1000 years from now will be going crazy over the wealth of information about todays culture which has been captured in blogs. An archeologist today has very limited information regarding long ago cultures. I mean think about it, imagine if Jesus’ twelve disciples had blogs, in fact imagine if old joe smith who once listened to Jesus’ parable of the sower had a blog. There would be no problem with trying to interpret Jesus’ words or trying to figure out what the people were thinking about when Jesus was speaking. We could just read their blogs.
Today’s big events will not only be stored but a wealth of comments surrounding that big event will be available for archeologists to get many view points on the big event.

Well I am waffling on so lets change the subject. Today has had no major cool things happen to me, I went to work then came home and started chatting on gtalk to a friend. I have found a meme for Saturday. It’s called Photo Hunters. This is going to be interesting, this weeks theme is ‘Water’ so Saturday I will be posting a water photo that I took in the UK in 2005. I am not the best photographer but I sometimes take strange photos which I think are pretty cool. So you wanna see the photo? Come back Saturday when I post.

I mentioned Ice skating yesterday. Well I have been trying to ice skate. I have never done it before and it is extremely difficult. But true to South African nature, there are a whole bunch of people who want to see you do it right, so if you are one of those good samaritans who helped me start learning, I owe you some thanks.
I have been twice now, the first time I clung to the side like I was attached. The second time one guy was showing me how to move on the ice and I practiced with one foot on the ice and the other pushing at an angle (Something like this |/ ) and never once held onto the side. So although not a lot of progress, it feels like huge progress for me.
If you have never been ice skating before then I recommend grabbing a friend and going to learn, it’s a whole bunch of fun. If you want some links to read up on ice skating pop me a comment (thanks tnchick) and I will add them here.

Well it’s that time of the night again, so I will start thinking of what to write for tomorrow.

The first post

Posted in General, Links

Well here it is, the first post. I don’t have a lot to say but have a few ideas for this blog.
I enjoy taking photographs so have been looking at joining a photo meme. There are a couple of good ones I have seen already but more on that when I get closer to making a decision on which one to join.
There are some other interesting memes out there which will be pretty interesting to join but I don’t have any info for you yet on those.

Another thing I plan to do here, I want to call something like “Stupid Questions with Interesting Answers”. The idea here is those really stupid questions you come up with but when you look for the answer you actually find that it is really quite interesting. For example I was at the ice rink in Northgate (South Africa) and was watching the zamboni fix the ice. I noticed that there seemed to be some steam coming off the brushes and there were some gas canisters attached next to the driver. So we started discussing it and one person said that they use the gas to power the zamboni and another said they had never thought about it. So as soon as I got home I went to our favourite search engine, google, and looked it up. (I would say I googled it but that’s illegal and a breach of copyright, I just thought it was advertising and brand recognition) I got to our favourite site which explains how stuff works (www.howstuffworks.com) and sat reading for quite a while because it was really interesting. When I get going on that I will post all the info but if you can’t wait just search zamboni on the above site.

Well I didn’t think that I was going to write this much it’s getting close to bed time now and I still need to fix some problems I have been having with my TiVo, well actually the connection between my TiVo and my PC where I have been saving programs for later viewing.  Oh and to answer your question, yes we do have TiVo in South Africa. Not the latest or greatest Series 3 but Series 1 has support and limited Series 2 support. If you have never heard of TiVo and want to read more about it and it’s South African support, go on over to http://tivoza.nanfo.com.
