Hoobastank – Thoughts
Yes I know it’s Saturday, but I don’t have anything for the Photohunt this week. Mostly time constraints but I just thought of doing a little post quickly to give a couple of comments on the MyFest concert I attended yesterday.
I don’t have any specific favourite bands I can list Springbok Nude Girls, Parlotones, and Cassette for the local scene. Fevertree was great, I know they are a pretty new band but man have they got a good stage presence. If anyone from Fevertree happens on to this blog, you guys are going to go far I think. They have great music and really know how to handle the audience.
From the internationals, I think my most favourite was Hoobastank. Those guys are awesome, have a great stage presence really awesome music. I was a bit turned off by some of the language, but I think they are rap generation Americans which is probably where that comes from. Besides the language, if I got a chance, I would go see them again. I might even buy a CD if I decide to start a non-Christian collection. The drummer was awesome and I would love to practice to some of the beats he uses, I think I just decided to go buy a CD
I left before Evanescence or Wickhead played. I heard though that Evanescence has a very morbid style, and I am not a fan of music that comes bundles which razor blades so it’s just as well I left early. I heard Wickhead was good though but It would have been too late especially since I was at worship practice the this morning. To come back to Hoobastank, I just listened to a podcast interview with one of the band members (Here) it was interesting. I mentioned that they have a good stage presence, an example is that when the international bands came on they marked out clear boundries for cameramen in front and on the stage. One of the cameraman broke the ‘rules’ and got closer into the bands, he was then dragged by one of the crew members into the ’safe area’. The lead singer of Hoobastank promptly went to the cameraman, grabbed him by the camera and dragged him into the no-go area and pointed the camera at the fans rocking in the crowd. That was a truly awesome move and one which I think went noticed and was appreciated by a whole bunch of people. The band was really down to earth and your could see that they really enjoyed playing the music to the crowd.
Anyway to end off this short (ok it’s pretty long I admit
) post I just wanted to say, if any Hoobastank band members find this site, you guys are awesome, really enjoyed you in South Africa, and keep up the good work, and when you headline next years Coke fest, I will be there in the front of the stage and will not leave early, I promise.
