” to me”, “my God” is ….

Posted in Church, General

I was thinking about what I should post today and was scanning the blogosphere for something which I can comment on. While scanning the blogosphere, I was watching a program called “the Way of the Master” which is a program by Pastor Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron. It is a really awesome series which helps Christians understand the importance of sharing their faith. I am not saying that we should all go out and tell everyone about Jesus (although those were Jesus’ words in the great commission, but that is another discussion and will come down to pretty much what I am saying now) What I am saying is that in every single thing we do, we need to be an example to those who do not have salvation.

Idolatry
I chose my title of this post because of the second commandment, “You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.”
If someone says to you that “to them God cannot judge them, because their god is a god of peace and love and he could never create Hell.” They are 100% correct their god cannot create Heaven because he does exist. They have created a god which conforms to their understanding of God, they have fashioned a god which they are comfortable with. This is exacly what God meant in the second commandment, we are not to love anything more than we love God for risk of creating an idol out of that thing.

This was a pretty big message for me and it is going to be a difficult one to live by.

Blog network
On a different note I mentioned earlier about a blog network, and thought I would give you a little bit of an update. Things are looking up for the network, I have some software I am currently testing and so far it is looking pretty slick. I will upload the software as long as I can fully test each phase of the software.
I will need about an hour total site downtime when I am happy to implement it, but I will warn you a little closer to the time.

It’s a sick world we live in

Posted in Church, General

I was watching a South African tv program tonight and was utterly appalled at some of the things I was hearing. The segment I am refering to is called “Mating in Captivity“, and talks about marriage being the captivity here.
Well what really shocked me was that the author of the book was saying that each partner should deal with their own satisfaction and enjoyment of marital acts. She also says that most couples fantasise about adding a third party to the marriage bed. These couples should actually add this third party to the marriage bed.

Wow, this is totally unbiblical as far as my understanding goes.

The Marriage Charter
The first thing I want to talk about with my understanding of this is the marriage charter in Genesis 2:24. God created Adam and then from Adam He created Eve. Verse 24 says “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh”. What this means is that from the very beginning God created the template of a marriage as one man and one woman. Jesus reiterates this in Matthew 19:4-5 when He says “Have you not read that he created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh’” This also means that when a man joins a woman they form one flesh, or one perfect human being, each complementing the other.

Selfish - Self Absorbed - Self, Self, Self
One of the fundamental traits of a Christian, is his focus on others instead of himself. This is not a rule of Christianity as some people may believe, but is simply an evidence of Christianity. Christ exhibits humbleness and servanthood in John 13:5-20 when he washes the Disciples feet. Now this was usually a job reserved for the servants of the house hold. The israelites walked around with sandles so their feet were extremely dirty. In fact Peter did not want to let Jesus wash his feet, but Jesus responded by saying that Peter will not understand now, but will understand later; so Peter allows Jesus to wash his feet.

Jesus performed the lowest act of service for his desciples and we should be modelling our lives aroud Jesus as an example to us.

Well I am not sure whether I have gotten my point across about how bad this book is, but it is getting pretty late and I have nodded off twice already while typing. I will reread tommorrow and try and fix it if I need to or even write a part 2

Please feel free to ask questions, orcomment on the article below.

Today I would like to review an eBook which is pretty good. If you are interested in seeing how someone can go from losing everything to haveing a profitable internet business up and running in one month, then this book is for you.

Synopsis
In the book, which is called The One Month Magnate, the author, Tony Shepherd, takes you step by step through building a profitable income from the internet. He does not try and con you into thinking you will be rich within a week, he simply states facts and helps you to see where you could also create a profitable web business.

About the Author
Tony Shepherd is one of the UK’s most private Internet Marketers.
Co-owner of Laycock Publishing with marketing guru Sara Brown, Tony has written several books and made his living from the Internet for a number of years.

Tony usually writes under different names and keeps his private life away from work, making sure the latter is kept to a minimum!

About the eBook
The eBook is written under the premise that if the author lost everything except 30 days before he had to pay any debt like a house mortgage, he would be able to have a profitable business in 30 days, and already earned a bit of profit.

I thought the book was written very well and owners of the book will learn some very profitable ways of building an online business. This is all done in a usefull step by step format starting with day one and ending with day 30.

If you are at all interested in earning some extra cash on the side, I recommend this book. Follow the instructions and you will be wishing you had seen it ages ago.

Sleep 90 minutes and wake up refreshed

Posted in Articles, General

Well maybe not 90 minutes total but I have been testing out my sleeping patterns lately. I found that if I plan my sleep in 90 minute increments it helps me get a better night sleep.

You may know that when you sleep, your body goes through five distinct stages, of sleep. These stages last a total of about 90 to 100 minutes, they will then repeat continuously until you wake.

Stage One
This stage is where you transition into wakefulness and sleep. Some people believe that this stage only happens once, but it will happen every time that your body enters a state of wakefulness, even if you are not aware that you are awake and including when waking in the morning. This stage lasts for about five minutes before you move onto stage two. People, who suffer from insomnia or apnea, may remain in this stage for a longer period.
The brain waves during this stage is predominantly Theta waves but some Alpha waves also occur. Your eyes may begin to roll slowly during this stage of sleep.

Stage Two

In Stage two, sleep peaks of your brain waves become higher, these are called sleep spindles. The spindles can be followed by k-complexes (where the peaks suddenly descend and then pick back up). Theta waves can also be found in this stage. Stage two is a period of light sleep and initially only lasts a few minutes. Gradually though, stage two sleep increases to take most the sleep cycle. During this stage your heart rate will slow and your body temperature will decrease as your body prepares to enter a deep sleep.

Stages Three and Four
These two stages make up your Delta sleep and occur when you are at the deepest sleep. These stages are longest in the first two sleep cycles and are when your body achieves the greatest amount of restoration. If you have not slept in a while, then this is the sleep that your body will crave. Delta waves will be most prevalent in these stages; however theta waves are also present. It is believed that Stage three is extremely short and will transition into stage four very quickly.
In children, delta sleep takes up about 40% of their sleep time and it will be very difficult to wake them from this stage.
Stage four will then move to stage three and then to stage two before moving onto the next stage.

Stage Five
During this stage your brain becomes very active. Your eyes begin to move rapidly from side to side, your heart rate and respiration speed up, and your muscles (face, fingers, and legs) may twitch. Groups of voluntary muscles may also become paralysed during this stage and due to increased brain activity, you may begin to hallucinate, or dream. The first period of this stage five can last ten minutes but this can gradually increase. Beta waves, which are in high occurrences while awake, are most prevalent here during the sleep cycle.
After Stage five the body will usually move on to stage two.

Sleep specialists have named the first four stages as Non-REM or NREM and the last stage as REM. REM stands for Rapid Eye Movement and is named due to the increase eye movement during stage five.
Your sleep cycle is pretty variable and can be affected by stress levels or certain medication which you may take. If you are not consistent with when you go to sleep and how long you sleep, your body might vary the cycles during sleep or even the length of certain stages. It is very important to stick to a schedule, such as going to sleep at midnight and always waking up at 6AM. This is about four sleep cycles and should be enough sleep for your body.
If you have sustained some type of injury or think you may be coming down with a sickness, you may require more sleep, but always make sure to try wake up during stage two sleep.
If you wake during any other stage, especially delta sleep, you will most probably feel as though you have not slept at all.

Bribery and corruption

Posted in General, Links

Something for the parents
Well maybe not so much bribery but I found an interesting site about ideas to help bring up kids. Now I don’t have any children (I am an introvert after all :-) ) but I just love this site. Before when people had problems with their children they would go to their parents or maybe chat about it at the local womens social gathering, but now using the internet you can glean great tips from hundreds even thousands of parents. My philisophy has always been, if you have a problem, somebody in the world has had the same problem an documented the answer on the internet. Take this post for example TiVo the kids to bed early on New Year’s Eve, its a really great tip and some other parents have given their ideas as well (some of which involve a little less corruption which is a good thing ;-) )
So if you are a parent then a great idea would be to subscribe to this site for ideas.

Grocery Shopping
Talking about parenting and stuff, have you guys tried the new Amazon Grocery? It looks really good. Unfortunately they don’t deliver to South Africa :-( but you American based readers should find it really usefull.

Magnetism
Have you guys heard of the Polarity Game? I have ordered my copy of the game , its looks really fun, in a geeky scientific kinda way. but then I am a geeky scientific kinda recovering introvert. Get Your copy, its called The Polarity Game. I will post a full review once I have recieved it from the States.

a Funny story

Posted in Funny Videos, General

The Story
My dad told me a funny story this weekend. My dad deals with Generator Sets which provide power to a building in the case of electricity supply failure. So he has this one customer, I can’t say who it is but I will say it’s a large grocery retailer whose primary business function is financial services, they grabbed a generator from my dad’s company and rented it for the duration of a power shortage.

About two hours after it being installed and started to run their fridges, that my dad gets a call that the thing has failed and they need immediate assistance. Immediately my dad asks what the controller says on its screen. Now the controller is a clever little thing that kind of hints at the problem rather than be direct, so the error message says “Uncontrolled Shutdown! Fuel?”. A subtle hint that you should maybe check the fuel guage. My dad tells the person on the other side that all the technicians are busy so cannot bring fuel to fill the generator. So the guy must find a drum, drive it to the filling station and bring back some diesel for the thing, he says ok and hung up.

A couple of hours later they phone again, after putting 400 odd litres of diesel in the thing it still won’t start. My dad is a little curious as to how they filled the 200 litre tank with 400 litres. They said they just filled until it would not take any more. My dad asks them to describe where they put the fuel. After there explanation he asks, “Right so above the fuel cap, the one that has Diesel printed on it, you opened the one with the stick thing and filled there?”, “Right” they said proudly. They had just filled the engine with diesel by putting the diesel into the cap with the dip stick to measure the oil level in the engine. :-)

They were pretty annoyed that the controller was still insisting “Fuel?” and didn’t realise that the fuel tank was actually still empty and the engine was now flooded, really flooded. R2000 later the technician had drained the fuel (and now contaminated oil) out of the engine filled the tank with fresh diesel and started up the generator. They wanted to know what they must now do with the three or four barrels of ‘two stroke diesel’ that the technician had left behind. He told them whatever they wanted but advised them not to put it into the truck engines. :-)

A funny video
I was sent this video yesterday by a friend, I was literally crying it was so funny.

Where does the money go?

Posted in Articles, General

Well with the end of another month I have to sit and sort out my finances. I haven’t looked at them for a few months now so I really don’t have 100% handle on them. My budget is a little outdated with the petrol price increases South Africa has been receiving, so that needs updating. Financial stuff really bugs me sometimes, I can really get confused but I have been told that I don’t approach finances like a normal person. The guy that was analysing my finances at the time told me that I manage them very well and have a handle on what I am doing. Now if I can only keep that up because I have obviously slacked over the last couple of months.

Some thoughts on managing your financial situation
With prices increasing all the time, saving money can be harder and harder to do. Here are some solutions for saving a little so that you can still meet your needs and still find ways to trim off a little for the future.

1. BUDGET – Get one and stick with it! And set aside at least a small portion for savings while you’re at it; savings for your future, your retirement, your education, your annual holiday, whatever. Head to your local office supply store for planning workbooks or budget sheets to use. Or head to your favorite search engine and type in, “budget planning” for hundreds of sites with articles, free downloads, tips, ebooks and other resources to help with your budget setup and follow up. I use a simple spreadsheet, very easy but unfortunately does not keep itself up to date :-)

2. PLAN AHEAD – Make sure to plan for emergencies and the unexpected, like an appliance break down or garage door malfunction. Even if you can only set aside R250 or so each monthly, place it in an account and earmark it for this “Miscellaneous” fund. Then when things go wrong, and they will – nothing’s perfect – you’ll be better prepared. You can also put this money in your bond. This way you will save a huge amount on interest. Be carefull though as most bonds which allow you to access funds, applies some of those funds to your bond permanently to make up for the interest the bank loses out on

3. NON-MONTHLY ITEMS – Work out a monthly payment for items that you don’t pay monthly and set this up in your regular monthly budget. For example, for items like annual home owner or renter insurance, quarterly water bills and automobile insurance payments and annual trash bills, take the amounts and determine what they would be monthly. Then list the items on your budget log and pull these amounts aside, saving them in your account for those purposes. This way, when the bills hit, you won’t be caught off guard and have to scrounge for the payments. When I first started budgetting, I forgot about these things. For a year at least. the second year I was more educated. :-)

What works well, instead of handling multiple savings accounts for each company owed, is to use multiple spreadsheets and one savings account. Create one sheet for each bill. Then simply log the amount you’re setting aside on the sheet and deposit it into your savings account.

So next time you get paid, take three giant steps forward. Grab your spreadsheets, follow your budget and invest in yourself and your future. Get a grip on your money handling.
