Human representatives

Posted in Funny Videos, General

I have been watching a lot of Stargate recently and I was just wondering about choosing people to represent Earth to other worlds. Out of these videos, I want my readers to choose one person who would be best suited for this prestigious position. Please put your answers in the comments section so everyone can see who you have picked.

Confessions of a recovering introvert

Posted in General, Life, Recovering Introvert

I have been scarce to say the least. I really enjoy blogging but have been sick a couple of weeks ago and I guess I have still coming out of it slowly and just needed to recharge my batteries so to speak. I am an introvert after all and although I call myself a recovering introvert, it is not really something I can change.

I will always be an introvert and still require some withdrawal for good old fashioned R&R…Alone.  I am simply working on being more sociable and learning to enjoy being with people (for a little while :-) )

If you came to this page looking to figure out the differences between an introvert and an extrovert, or even if you are an extrovert and someone recently “introvert” and “back off” in the same sentence and you wondered what this introvert sickness is, then read this article entitled “Caring for your introvert“. It is a brilliant piece of writing explaining why introverts seem to be withdrawn all the time.

I do not regret that I am an introvert. I love who I am, I enjoy “my time”, but I really enjoy the transformation that I am working on. I love to spend time with friends lately whereas before I would not have friends. I would endure the minimum amount of exposure to people that I can get away with. I used to budget for speeding fines, because I liked to put as much distance between me and other drivers as possible. (I have never told anyone that so this blog is really helping me get these things out :-) )
I would lock myself in my room and read on the internet, or simply write computer programs, which I never released or used for anything once  they were  done.

Well I guess that about all I can say for now, starting to get tired and still have lots of studying to do.

RSS, what is it and how does it help me?

Posted in General, Marketing

First of all I would just like to say thanks to the one person who has subscribed to my blog through the RSS feed. (Honest it isn’t my mother :-) )
Actually I just noticed that as of today I have two subscribers :-)

I have spoken about RSS feeds before in my article “Just who needs your RSS feed anyway?” and “It’s easy to go from idea to article“, but what I didn’t mention was that RSS saves you time as well. I am subscribed to one site which provides an average of 10 new items a day, I am interested in reading maybe two of those items. So to save time I subscribe to the RSS feed of that site. I can now scan the headlines and click on the interesting ones to read the detail, or tag it for later reading.

I am probably not the best person to explain it so I will just hand over to ProBloggers “Beginners guide to RSS

Impulsive writing

Posted in General, JMRPub.com Network, Life

Well a quick note about the cool software upgrade, it failed for this weekend. For some reason I can’t seem to create independent blogs. Posting something on one blog seems to apply that post to all the blogs, so yet again I have rolled back the changes.

I found this interesting post from ProBlogger.net. If you blog anywhere near as unplanned as I do then you need to read the article, it’s very interesting and might just be a time saver.

Marketing lessons from home

Posted in General, Links, Marketing

Wow, I just watched a video on AffiliateWatcher.com. It is part of a post called 5 Lessons a Cape Buffalo Calf Can teach you about Affiliate Marketing. If you are interested in Affiliate marketing at all or even if you just enjoy a good wildlife drama (action) then have a look at the post.

I never thought that as a South African learning these techniques from an American, I never thought that I would be learning something by example from my own country. :-)

Poachers and Giant lego men, Love at first sight

Posted in Articles, General, JMRPub.com Network, Life

JMRPub.com Network
As mentioned yesterday I am busy converting the software of my blog to Wordpress MU which will allow people to sign up for their own blogs on the JMRPub.com Network. You may notice some funny things happening with the site over this weekend so please bare with me during this transitional time.

Intelligent Poachers
I found this article which tells the tale of some poachers from Vietnam entered Malaysian waters to try and catch fish which they were not entitled to. They would have gotten away with it as well because they were clever enough to fly the Malaysian flag on their ship. Unfortunately the authorities were tipped off by local fisherman when they were alerted to something fishy about the poachers due to the flag being flown upside down.

Giant Lego Man
Or how about this item about a giant lego man being rescued in a dutch resort. Apparently he was spotted bobbing lifelessly in the ocean coming from the general area of Britain.

Love at first sight
I also found an interesting article here regarding love at first sight. They ask the question whether love at first sight really exists. Have a look at the article and let me know what you think. Pretty helpfull stuff if you ask me :-)

Changes and Downtime

Posted in General, JMRPub.com Network

Well if you visited my site earlier you may have noticed some strange looking blog you didn’t recognise. I had my domain pointed to another folder where I am doing software upgrades for the JMRPub.com network. I have not completed the upgrades so have pointed my site back to the original blog. You may notice it going back in a couple of days but I should be a lot closer to having it completed when I point it back.

Well the day is pretty much over on this side of the world so I am going to hit bed and see everyone in the morning :-)

He did what, with his camera?

Posted in General, Links, Photos

Wow I cant believe it, but before I mention it let me just discuss a another point.

I noticed that Scribefire puts links to itself on all my posts, so I will probably not use that very often, unless I find some really cool tips on the Thirty day challenge to get rid of the link. It’s sad really because it saves a few minutes of having to log into your blog and hitting the post button.

Camera toss
Now that you are intrigued and wanting to know what I really can’t believe, I will let you in on it. I was reading a post over at Strobist and  saw that a guy named Mike Larso, who specialises in wedding photography, has a move he calls the camera toss. Essentially what he does is stand in the middle of a circle of guests, and throw his camera up into the air while it is in continuous shooting mode. The shots look really great but I would be petrified of trying it with my camera.

That’s it for tonight, time to get some rest.

Tracking your every move

Posted in General, ThirtyDayChallenge

I bought myself a bluetooth GPS last week so I can connect it to my phone. The thing is really awesome, it picks up the satellites really fast and can connect to 32 satellites at a time. I have only ever had about 13 so far but that is in my car with a heat shielding on the windscreen which could weaken the signal.

I have just installed a software called GPSGate on my phone which allows me to upload my co-ordinates to a website and track where I have been driving. If you have a free GPS gate account and would like to see some of my driving routes, drop me a line with your account and I will add you to my buddies list.

Thirty Day Challenge
The Thirty day challenge is off to a running start, but unfortunately I was left behind with Bronchitis so I have a bit of catching up to do. I have started my catch-up this evening and am hoping to get caught up very soon.

If you haven’t joined yet then you are missing out on the training event of 2007. So pop on over and register and get started on the training. We are only 6 days in and it will be much more difficult to catch-up later.

Well that’s me for tonight, I am off to bed
