Go Therefore…

Posted in Church, General, Life, Movies

Wow what a sermon this morning. I really recommend taking a trip to http://www.midrandchapel.za.org and downloading the message.

As Christians we tend to get complacent with our lives. We read our bibles, pray about our friend’s and our own problems and we live our lives happy in the knowledge that God sent His son to do all the hard work for us and all we have to do is accept it. Well there is a commission given to us by Jesus Himself. Check out Matthew 28:16-20 and get yourself a copy of the sermon.

Here is a pretty good video as well, from a movie called The Most, which translates to The Bridge.

Fitting in at church

Posted in Church, Funny Videos, General

Well with the new year here some people may have made some resolutions that they should go to church more often. However it is not always easy to fit in at church, so the guys over at Bluefish TV have a handy instructional video to help everyone fit into any church. These tips are good, everyone should check over them even if you have been in church for a while.

Tis the season to be….

THANKFUL!!!!

When the world shows us temptation, lets show them Christ
When the world shows us suffering, lets show them Christ
When the world shows us enmity, lets show them Christ
When the world shows us a helpless baby, in a manger, protected by a donkey, showered with gifts of earthly riches,
Lets show them a Son, hanging on the cross, taking OUR temptation, OUR suffering, OUR enmity
and DEFEATING them all by rising from death.

Should parents ban Social engineering from their kids?

Posted in Church, General, Life

My personal opinion is no. First of all these sites are the future of the internet, coined Web 2.0 by those who feel they can name the internet, social engineering sites have exploded in as little time as one year. But what does that have to do with your children? Well take a look at the article from USA Today and see what the opinion of a youth pastor is.

Please parents, take an active role in your child’s online life, because there are some real sickos out there just waiting for your childs personal details.

” to me”, “my God” is ….

Posted in Church, General

I was thinking about what I should post today and was scanning the blogosphere for something which I can comment on. While scanning the blogosphere, I was watching a program called “the Way of the Master” which is a program by Pastor Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron. It is a really awesome series which helps Christians understand the importance of sharing their faith. I am not saying that we should all go out and tell everyone about Jesus (although those were Jesus’ words in the great commission, but that is another discussion and will come down to pretty much what I am saying now) What I am saying is that in every single thing we do, we need to be an example to those who do not have salvation.

Idolatry
I chose my title of this post because of the second commandment, “You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.”
If someone says to you that “to them God cannot judge them, because their god is a god of peace and love and he could never create Hell.” They are 100% correct their god cannot create Heaven because he does exist. They have created a god which conforms to their understanding of God, they have fashioned a god which they are comfortable with. This is exacly what God meant in the second commandment, we are not to love anything more than we love God for risk of creating an idol out of that thing.

This was a pretty big message for me and it is going to be a difficult one to live by.

Blog network
On a different note I mentioned earlier about a blog network, and thought I would give you a little bit of an update. Things are looking up for the network, I have some software I am currently testing and so far it is looking pretty slick. I will upload the software as long as I can fully test each phase of the software.
I will need about an hour total site downtime when I am happy to implement it, but I will warn you a little closer to the time.

It’s a sick world we live in

Posted in Church, General

I was watching a South African tv program tonight and was utterly appalled at some of the things I was hearing. The segment I am refering to is called “Mating in Captivity“, and talks about marriage being the captivity here.
Well what really shocked me was that the author of the book was saying that each partner should deal with their own satisfaction and enjoyment of marital acts. She also says that most couples fantasise about adding a third party to the marriage bed. These couples should actually add this third party to the marriage bed.

Wow, this is totally unbiblical as far as my understanding goes.

The Marriage Charter
The first thing I want to talk about with my understanding of this is the marriage charter in Genesis 2:24. God created Adam and then from Adam He created Eve. Verse 24 says “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh”. What this means is that from the very beginning God created the template of a marriage as one man and one woman. Jesus reiterates this in Matthew 19:4-5 when He says “Have you not read that he created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh’” This also means that when a man joins a woman they form one flesh, or one perfect human being, each complementing the other.

Selfish - Self Absorbed - Self, Self, Self
One of the fundamental traits of a Christian, is his focus on others instead of himself. This is not a rule of Christianity as some people may believe, but is simply an evidence of Christianity. Christ exhibits humbleness and servanthood in John 13:5-20 when he washes the Disciples feet. Now this was usually a job reserved for the servants of the house hold. The israelites walked around with sandles so their feet were extremely dirty. In fact Peter did not want to let Jesus wash his feet, but Jesus responded by saying that Peter will not understand now, but will understand later; so Peter allows Jesus to wash his feet.

Jesus performed the lowest act of service for his desciples and we should be modelling our lives aroud Jesus as an example to us.

Well I am not sure whether I have gotten my point across about how bad this book is, but it is getting pretty late and I have nodded off twice already while typing. I will reread tommorrow and try and fix it if I need to or even write a part 2

Please feel free to ask questions, orcomment on the article below.

the Attention span of a child

Little reflections

Well today was a very interesting service at church today. Nothing really stood out of the norm (except maybe me throwing my drum sticks all over the place, I had horrible butter fingers today), but one thing that was interesting was that a friend of mine’s son (thats him reflecting above) wanted to sit on my lap during the sermon. Now as an introvert, that is a no-no. Kids are totally out of bounds for introverts, they worse than people, they little people. They have all sorts of ucky things like …. Well let me carry on before I gross some people out :-)

As a recovering introvert though, I have become kind of attached to the little guy. He like me to hold him sometimes and does the cutest little dances when I play drums. So things were not so bad when the sermon started and he came and sat on my lap. Then I start remembering back to some presentation training I went through and remembered that children have an attantion span of like maybe 10 minutes. So I start to panic that this guy is gonna draw attention to me when he gets bored, but he was extremely good for like 40 minutes, and there is only so many times you can play with your shoelaces and try to pull your fingers off your hands (without it hurting of course). He finally cracked at that point and I had to walk through the church hall with a crying child so that his parents could take him to the toys.

Google Street View

I was reading an article the other day on a service from Google called Google street view, well actually not a service in itself but more of an add-on to Google Earth. Anyway it’s a pretty hot topic at the moment as people are saying that their privacy is being violated. One example is a lady who went to her house and could see her cat sitting in the window.

Well my personal opinion is that people can drive by her house and see the cat themselves without Google street view, so whats the bother. Now I know that there are many more people can view this online and in the privacy of their own homes. This maybe raises concerns about criminals using the service, but it’s just as easy for a criminal to drive by a house that is being targeted and take a few seconds of footage and drive away without being noticed. In fact as a criminal (not that I am a criminal mind you ;-) ) I would much rather get the footage myself as I can get all the angles I wanted and there would be no log of my IP address that I was looking at the pictures.

A man and his worldview

Posted in Church, General, Music

I attended our church’s first men’s seminar yesterday. The topics on discussion were very interesting and Rev. Brian Stone from Emmanuel Baptist did a very good job of putting some Biblical perspective on the issues.

The following sessions were held:
          Session 1: A man & his work

          Session 2: A man & his worship

          Session 3: A man & his wife
