Foreign Currency

Posted in General, Marketing, Work

I very rarely talk about work on my blog. There is a reason for that, its because my job is boring. I am a database administrator and I am sure nobody wants to here about my meetings or bulk update requests. I used to love my job but it very quickly became a functional thing. My job simply serves to keep me Just Over Broke, I get my paycheque every month and that’s that, the next pay cycle starts.

I have just spent a good few hours talking to a friend about internet marketing. I have had an interest in marketing for a long while and internet marketing is a beast on its own. One of my projects at the moment is an eBook on how to open an American bank account as a foreign citizen. I have opened one and have a bit of US dollars sitting in my account in the US. It is a big step for a South African because it opens a lot of doors on the internet. South African credit cards are denied by many online merchants simply because of some law here, but with an American debit card I can go shopping at any store pretty much. The eBook is coming along nicely, and the reason I wanted to mention it in today’s post is because I want to do a pre-release of sorts. If you would be interested in purchasing this eBook (and you are not committed to your decision here) just drop a comment to this post and I will notify you when it is done, and I will even let you get a significant discount for showing your interest early. Due to the discount I have in mind, I can only allow 100 people to get the discount so comment quickly and you won’t miss out.

The eBook will show you how to setup the account, and link it to paypal as well as a few other cool things. This is a great start to get your internet business running.

Blog changes

Posted in General, Links, Marketing, Photo Hunters

Well the weekend is nigh and I think I will have to organise an upgrade on my Wordpress site. My version is a little behind. It is gonna take a little bit of work but should be finished by Saturday afternoon. I will try get Photohunters done by Friday night and if my site goes down for a couple of hours on Saturday you guys will know why :-)

I have also spent a few hours getting a link cloaker installed on my site. I will write an article on how it works during the weekend so anyone who wants to set it up can simply follow my instructions. It took me 3 Hours to setup but if you have proper instruction it should take you about 10 minutes :-)
What it does is cloak your links until the visitor has actually clicked on the link. So as an example I could send you to http://www.streetcrew.co.za but I would rather send you to http://www.jmrpub.com/recommends/streetcrew.

There are a few things you could actually do with this, one is stopping people replacing your affiliate details with their own and you could also use this in your campaigns to track the clicks for that link.

Dogs

Posted in General, Links, Marketing

Well I missed another post again last night, I have an excuse though. I got home to find a message on my fridge that the dogs had been fighting and one of them is bleeding all over the place. I go out to find the one dog (with very bad arthritis)  hiding in the corner and the other one really happy with herself. So most of the night was spent bathing the wound and trying to see the damage. I think it is a wound on the ear or around the ear area, I couldn’t find it in the night time. I have seperated the dogs and the wounded one is looking much happier today, walking around a bit and wagging her tail when you come out to check on her. I will probably take her to the vet this weekend to get her checked out but my prediction would be that she won’t come back home because her arthritis has become worse since she was last at the vet.

On a lighter note I was just helping a friend signup with Dreamhost. I really recommend it because they are having a promotion to give you 500GB disk space 5 domains and 5TB of bandwidth. Click the banner on the right and I will get a little bit of my domain hosting paid by referral bonus. They use half of my referral bonus to give you a $50 discount though which I think is slightly unfair but you shouldn’t pass up the opportunity to get such a good hosting package. Hurry though as they only have 500 available (sorry 499, my friend bought one), well then again take your time because then I get the full referral bonus which will help out with my renewal fees coming up this month.
I noticed that Dreamhost is offering an upgrade for WordPress so I think I should do that this weekend.

I am gonna sign out now, see you guys tomorrow.

Another Day

Posted in General, Marketing, Music

Well another day has passed, this week seems to be flying. Maybe it’s just because I am looking forward to the concert on Friday. So with the postponement of the Guns ‘n Roses global tour, the lineup for Friday looks like this according to the 5fm website:

12.15 - 12.45 Fevertree  30 mins
13.00 - 13.30 J  30 mins
13.45 - 14.15 Cassette  30 mins
14.30 - 15.00 Evolver  30 mins
15.15 - 15.45 Parlotones 30 mins
16.00 - 16.30 SNG  30 mins
17.00 - 18.00 Hoobastank 60 mins
18.30 - 19.30 Staind  60 mins
20.00 - 21.00 3 Doors Down 60 mins
21.30 - 23.00 Evanescence 90 mins
23.20 - 23.50 Wickhead  30 mins

Now I have heard Springbok Nude Girls (SNG) and Parlotones and their music is pretty good (For non-Chrisitian bands that is :-) ) but I have never heard of any of the others so I think it will be an experience to remember.
And there’s even more, I am planning on moblogging from the event. Now I am not promising that I will have my blog ready for moblogging but I am going to try and get it working tomorrow so anyone who wants to read the latest will be able to follow along. I will let you know if any of the ridiculous things that happened last year happen again this year. (Read about it Here or Here) I think that people have been unsure about the organisation of this concert, so when G&R cancelled I think half the people looked back to last year, shook their heads and returned their tickets. Well there are no complaints from me, as I was too late to get Golden Circle tickets but someone cancelled theirs making more available so I upgraded my tickets. :-)

I can’t say much for the marketing of the concert though. I saw some new advertising boards go up this week advertising Gun ‘n Roses live in concert. That will require some explaining :-)

Well I am gonna sign out now, but want to leave you with this, its hilarious.

All about marketing

Posted in General, Links, Marketing

For some reason I managed to get myself onto a marketing mailing list, but found that some of the articles are so interesting that I can’t bring myself to unsubscribe. Today there was a very interesting article on the new advertising campaign for a South African mobile phone company called MTN. The campaign is created by an advertising agency called The Jupiter Drawing Room/MetropolitanRepublic. They have done some good stuff in the past but this campaign is rather controversial due to the fact that they seem to have taken ideas (and in the case of one ad, a direct copy of the video, edited to fit into 30secs), from You Tube videos.
Comments on the article range from it being direct theft, to simple non-innovation. Talking about adverts and innovation, one of the comments points to a UPS campaign which is absolutely brilliant. You can get the UPS videos here, do yourself a favour, check it out.

Well I picked up my tickets for the Coca Cola MyFest today. I think it’s gonna be great, it will be my first non-Christian concert so it will be interesting to see. Guns ‘n Roses were supposed to be headlining the concert but due to injury have cancelled.
From GunsnRoses.com:

“I feel so bad right now,” explains bassist Tommy Stinson. “I accidentally fell down a flight of stairs. I put my hand down to break my fall and heard a loud ‘pop.’ The next morning my hand looked like a balloon. I went to see my doctor, and while the good news is that it’s not broken, the bad is news is it’s severely sprained and I may have done some ligament damage

I would post photos but no Imaging devices are allowed :-(

Well thats it for today.
