Wow what a sermon this morning. I really recommend taking a trip to http://www.midrandchapel.za.org and downloading the message.
As Christians we tend to get complacent with our lives. We read our bibles, pray about our friend’s and our own problems and we live our lives happy in the knowledge that God sent His son to do all the hard work for us and all we have to do is accept it. Well there is a commission given to us by Jesus Himself. Check out Matthew 28:16-20 and get yourself a copy of the sermon.
Here is a pretty good video as well, from a movie called The Most, which translates to The Bridge.

Well for the last two weeks, the sermon at church has been about marriage and God’s design of marriage. (Sermons available at http://www.midrandchapel.za.org)
I have been an introvert for all my life, a loner. Never had very good interpersonal skills and would never talk to members of the opposite sex. When I started working and going to church regularly I started to develop some interpersonal communication skills, but was never really interested in developing any sort of relationship. I guess I just thought that I was not the marriage type.
I was listening to a John MacArthur sermon and also John Piper sermon over the valentines period. The sermons spoke about how God calls some people to be married and some he calls to be single. We can see this in Matt 19:10, “The disciples said to him, “If such is the case of a man with his wife, it is better not to marry.” v11 But he said to them, “Not everyone can receive this saying, but only those to whom it is given. v12 For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let the one who is able to receive this receive it.”
Basically I think what Jesus is saying here is exactly that, some people God calls to be single and some he calls to marry. I always thought that I was the single one, but lately I feel that this is changing. God wanted me to be single up until now but I feel that He is slowly changing this in me.
That is all well and good but at the moment I have that little problem of not being the best at interpersonal communication. Something that God will help me with I know but I just think that I have a long way to go. and it’s a road which I am rather nervous to walk down. I look at the way movies portray relationships and it seems that if a man wants to go out with a woman, it always ends up with them getting into bed together. That to me is not the correct relationship but unfortunately I cannot say I really know exactly what a correct relationship would entail. I also don’t know where to learn about how a relationship works. For an example, there are many questions which a person needs answers to, like how do you know whether you have any feelings for someone and how do you determine their feelings toward you? If you suspect comparable feelings, what is the next step? If you don’t suspect comparable feelings is it better just to leave a friendship as is if you already had a friendship?
These are questions that have started to flow through my mind lately as I start to develop new friendships and meet new people.
Anyway I have been rambling along for a while now, I don’t even really know what I have written, so I had better signoff now. If you are, were, or feel that you might be in a similar situation then drop me a comment and tell me your thoughts. The comments are anonymous so don’t feel shy
As a final bit, I just found this video on You Tube which I thought was very cool. There is no way a girl can say “No” to this:

Like people, dogs need to be healthy to enjoy life. Dogs are our friends, companions and often our guardians, but since they are also totally dependent on us for their well-being, it is our responsibility to look after them properly.
Dog Food SECRETS™ is your survival-guide to a healthier, happier dog that lives up to 8.3 years longer than dogs whose owners feed them commercial dog food and don’t follow the comprehensive steps I outlined in this book.
One of the most prevalent ‘diseases’ in dogs these days is one that also affects humans. Obesity. A fat dog is an unhealthy dog and is likely to suffer from arthritis and heart failure. Remember, in the wild dogs eat fresh meat that they have killed themselves. They also eat certain types of grass and may eat wild fruits like berries if these grow in their natural habitat.
Milk, custard and cake are the worst things you can give your grown dog and, though a puppy may benefit from the calcium in milk, there are commercial milk products available that are especially formulated for a puppy’s needs.
Dry dog food, or kibble as it is sometimes called, is said to have all the nutrients that your dog will need for health, but be careful which brands you buy as the labeling can be deceptive. A recent study shows that only 9 varieties of dog food (both dry and tinned) are healthy enough to be given to your dog, sort of like buying a hamburger for humans. I recommend visiting this site and getting their book which is filled with healthy food for your dog and weight control diets (with snacks).
A healthy dog should have a smooth, shining coat, clear eyes and a moist nose. Its breath should not smell foul. It should be slender, though not thin enough to see its ribs sticking out. If your dog’s breath is disgusting, it could be due to the tartar on its teeth. Chewing on a big bone will help to clean your dog’s teeth.
Regular worming will also help to keep your pet in top condition. Shots for distemper, heartworm, parvovirus and kennel cough are a must. Kennel cough is not likely to be a problem unless the dog is kept on cement. Your vet will need to administer the shots, but you can worm the dog yourself. The tablets should be pushed down the side of the dog’s mouth until he swallows. If this is too difficult, crush the tablet into some tinned dog food and offer when the dog is hungry. Watch to make sure he eats it all.
Parvovirus breaks down the digestive system and eventually affects the heart. It tends to come in outbreaks when people forget to have their animals inoculated. Symptoms include bloody stool and the animal is quickly unable to move and in obvious pain. It is almost always fatal. Luckily, it is not transmitted to humans.
Symptoms of distemper include runny eyes and a dry nose. It is rather like flu in humans.
A dog with worms may have a poor appetite, and will often - though not always - look to be in poor health with a dry coat that is harsh to the touch. If your dog drags itself along the ground in a sitting position, suspect worms immediately. Worms can sometimes be seen hanging from the anal passage. The problem needs to be addressed as soon as possible, because worms are easily transmitted to humans.
Fleas, which will happily jump from dogs to humans, can be another problem. These bloodsuckers can actually kill a tiny puppy, simply through blood loss. Puppies too young to wear a flea collar may be washed in a suitable preparation from the vet. Pat it dry afterwards, or keep it in a warm place so it doesn’t get cold. Always be sure to keep kennels and yard clean to reduce the flea problem. If they get out of hand, you may need to spray all bedding and surrounding areas to kill the fleas and their eggs.
If you live in a tick prone area, be sure to keep a tick collar on your dog at all times. Mark the renewal date on the calendar so you don’t forget to renew it. Your pet’s life may depend on it! Grass ticks cause itchy lumps that can become infected when scratched. If not removed quickly, the paralysis tick can cause death in three to five days.
If your dog seems to suddenly have weak back legs and falls over often, inspect it immediately for a tick and get it to the vet as soon as possible. Luckily, the tick vaccine works well and quickly and can save a dog that looks like it is gasping its last breath.
With attention to these few details, your pet should live a long and happy life, rewarding you with years of fun and companionship.

Another day, another public holiday. May the first, or may day is gone. As the day ends I find myself asking “what exactly is may day all about?”. Well there is an answer, and of course it would be on Wikipedia. I think the answer can be summarised though, that may day has so many holidays associated with it that the government just makes it a public holiday and lets the people celebrate as they please.
So today I had a couple of friends round who wanted to play my drum kit. I don’t think they realised how loud the thing was cause I got the idea that they wanted to get one to play at their house. Problem is they live in a block of flats :-), man will they be popular with the neighbours or what? Then when he sat down at the kit he wanted to tickle it, but he eventually started loosening up and playing a standard 8/4 Rock beat.
If anyone wants to try and learn drums, you can try the course over at http://www.studydrums.com. I have tried the course and it is good, I found it better for my style of learning to go to a real live instructor but I still use the online course to better my knowledge, especially since I haven’t been for lessons now in six months.
I went to the drive in yesterday in pretoria at the Menlyn shopping centre. The movies playing were The Reef and The History boys. Let me give you a short bit of advice on History boys. Don’t go see it. It is that simple, we lasted about 30mins and those 30mins were filled with questions like “Do you get the story here?”. It seems to be a british film, is filled with swearing and taking the Lord’s name in vain.
The Reef was interesting, good for children to just watch the fishies swimming in the sea. It was filled with bright colours and talking fish. The humour though is probably not going to be picked up by your average 10 year old. With references to “Ricky Marlin” and a couple of other gems, it got quite a few chuckles from the two adults in the car. I think it is a good movie to go watch with your kids in the 6-13 range or around those ages. Everyone should find some enjoyment out of the movie.
I have just gotten back from the Emporers palace Amusement Arcade, and let me just say, I was not too amused. A large number of the games were switched off, and about half the rest didn’t work. They either ate your money or refused to reward winners with tickets. All the machines were very badly maintained. For an example they had a drum machine. A song plays and you are supposed to play the beat on the drum pads. Needless to say, some unidentified idiot decided to steal the drum sticks connected to the machine, and the managers didn’t think to go to a music shop and buy a couple of pairs of drum sticks which usually go for about 100 bucks a pair. What the staff there decided to do was tape up the wires that used to hold the sticks and then you must play with that causing damage to the sensors on the machine.
Well it’s now 40mins into the 2nd of May so I am going to get some sleep.
Last night was half price night at a different ice rink than the one we normally go to so we decided to go out there. Unfortunately the rink officials were not really interested in officiating so none of the rules of the rink were adhered to by the skaters who had an average age of 15 (of course there were four of us that increased the average age slightly ). I must admit though their sound system was really good quality even though the music they played was not great.
But enough about the negatives, you wanna hear about my graceful gliding around the ice right? Well it didn’t happen, my friend told me I was moving faster so maybe my confidence is getting more, but there is definately something which is blocking me. I am really enjoying the learning process though so once I get going I am sure I will enjoy the ice skating.
I just watched a movie called the Beer League. It had some funny parts in it but the language was terrible. If there is nothing else to watch and you can block out really bad language then it will be interesting to watch but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
Well I almost missed doing a post on Friday (even though the save date will be Saturday cause I have the time as 11:56PM) but here it is.
Today after work I went to see a movie called Music and Lyrics. I was hoping to catch another movie but it turns out that it was sold out. But I am glad that I saw Music & Lyrics because it was not a movie that I would have chosen. It looked to be a real love story which guys usually get dragged to by their girlfriends/wives, so I wouldn’t have opted to see it if I wasn’t already in the ticket queue the the other movie wasn’t sold out.
I usually like to check out the morality rating of movies before seeing them, I didn’t on this one but it was a very good movie which had very few acts of violence, profanity, or sex in it. (You can view the morality rating here)
All round it was very enjoyable, very funny and well worth the time to view. What are you waiting for? Go and watch it for yourself.
